Rugby is a sport played and enjoyed worldwide at many different levels. Whilst at the pinnacle of the sport, played by the international elite in wonderful arenas such as Twickenham and other fantastic locations around the world, at the other end you have the grassroots rugby. This rugby, played by clubs like ours tucked away in rural locations, such as Kingsclere, provides the opportunity for players, young and old and of varying ability to enjoy this wonderful game.
The club was established in 1975 by a group local people to play social rugby on Sundays because of work commitments on a Saturday. Up until 1992 we were a nomadic club and moved to our current venue, the Fieldgate Centre, Kingslere when it was opened in 1992. We then joined the Hampshire leagues and changed from a nomadic Sunday side to a Saturday based club with a permanent home. Today we not only have players from the local community but from the surrounding area including Basingstoke, Newbury and Thatcham.
The club also has a thriving minis section with over 50 children in the age groups from 4 -10 years with many parents assisting with coaching and providing refreshments on Sunday mornings.
The club is well established in the area and thrives to provide people in community to actively participate in the game of rugby and today welcomes senior players and youngsters of all abilities. We pride ourselves on our team spirit and welcoming atmosphere. We are small but with support from the local area and the wider rugby community, we aim to continue to grow over the next few years.
Currently, we have only one adult team and have long-term plans to expand both this and our minis sections.
The club has done very well to survive since it was established in 1975 and with the continued support of our generous sponsors, players, wives, families and friends we will go from strength to strength.
